The 2022 NASCAR season is officially underway. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum hosted the inaugural race where the usual grass infield, most familiarly used by the USC Trojan football team, was replaced with a ¼ mile asphalt track.
ModernChassis Facts:
50,000+ people attended the event. Debut race of the NASCAR Net Gen car. First time a NASCAR event was held the Coliseum.
And the Winner Is: #22 Joey Logano
In 2021, Logano had only one Cup Series victory. The race was an exhibition event, no Cup Series points were earned.
In the News: NASCAR stated that at least 70 percent of ticket sales were to new spectators, a stat that is promising for NASCAR. The Los Angeles market has been tough for the sport to break into.
