NASCAR kicked-off in the Lonestar State with the EchoPark Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, TX. Although the race started with relatively dry conditions, the rain soon became a torrent, drawing concerns about driver safety.

This is the first NASCAR race at COTA

COTA is a 3.41 mile track that opened in 2012 that has a capacity of 120,000 spectators.

𝐀𝐧𝐝 π“π‘πž π–π’π§π§πžπ« 𝐈𝐬: #9 Chase Elliot was declared the winner after a red flag stoppage due to a fiery crash involving #41 Cole Custer and #19 Martin Truex Jr.

This is Chase Elliott’s 1st win this year.

The #9 finished second in the Daytona 500 this year.

π–π‘πšπ­ π­π‘πžπ²β€™π«πž 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐒𝐧𝐠: Some NASCAR drivers were upset that the race continued through the inclement weather. #4 Kevin Harvick stated, β€œAll I can say is this is the worst decision that we’ve ever made in our sport that I’ve been a part of, and I’ve never felt more unsafe in my whole racing career. Period.”

π–π‘πšπ­ 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐑: NASCAR’s next race is the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 30. Tires get warm at 6 p.m.
